{"id":392,"date":"2026-04-14T22:20:59","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T22:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/plat\/2026\/04\/14\/snapshot-ellipsometer-doing-vase-measurements\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T22:20:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T22:20:59","slug":"snapshot-ellipsometer-doing-vase-measurements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/plat\/2026\/04\/14\/snapshot-ellipsometer-doing-vase-measurements\/","title":{"rendered":"Snapshot ellipsometer doing VASE measurements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"3,0\">Over the last few weeks, we\u2019ve made significant improvements to both the hardware and software of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmpolarimetry.com\/snapshot-generalized-ellipsometer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snapshot ellipsometer<\/a>, and we are now working on conducting Variable Angle Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (VASE) measurements using a snapshot measurements.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3,1\">Here are some videos we collected today. We captured 35 different angles of incidence (ranging from 50\u00ba to 85\u00ba at\u00a0 1\u00ba increments). The total measurement time is approximately 20 seconds, during which the ellipsometer gets 35 datasets with an spectral range from 390nm and 870nm.<\/p>\n\n<p>This is all\u00a0 data collected in this video and fitted together with Woollam\u2019s CompleteEase software.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmpolarimetry.com\/snapshot-ellipsometer-doing-vase-measurements\/vase_sio2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-900\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mmpolarimetry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/VASE_SIO2-1024x557.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"557\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next video shows similar data, but this time using a sample with a thicker layer of thermal SiO2 (990nm). While this type of sample isn\u2019t optimal for a snapshot ellipsometer\u2014as the increased thickness generates rather high-frequency oscillations\u2014a successful measurement and data fit are still\u00a0 possible.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmpolarimetry.com\/snapshot-ellipsometer-doing-vase-measurements\/vase_sio2_thick\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-901\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-901\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mmpolarimetry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/VASE_SIO2_thick-1024x556.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"556\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This instrument can collect a ton of data in almost no time, but engineering the hardware and software to make is not easi task (aligment must be keep!).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last few weeks, we\u2019ve made significant improvements to both the hardware and software of our Snapshot ellipsometer, and we are now working on conducting Variable Angle Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (VASE) measurements using a snapshot measurements.
