{"id":1210,"date":"2023-03-10T12:18:14","date_gmt":"2023-03-10T11:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/plural\/?page_id=1210"},"modified":"2023-03-10T12:18:15","modified_gmt":"2023-03-10T11:18:15","slug":"grup-recerca_en","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/plural\/grup-recerca_en\/","title":{"rendered":"Consolidated Research Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The research conducted by the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>PLURAL<\/strong><\/span> group to date has been realised in <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">three different areas<\/span>. Firstly, in the development of our <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">understanding of language teaching<\/span> as the meeting place of the three foci essential to the study of teaching and learning languages: the learner, the teacher, and that which is being learned &#8211; the language. In this area, we consider how languages should be perceived and received in schools \u2013 whether they are part of the curriculum or not; the development of content matter to be taught at school and how real learning of this material may be achieved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The second area of study relates to <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">teacher education<\/span>, both pre- and in service. The group is interested in exploring and developing ways in which to improve teacher education in this country; to help teachers to interpret and internalize the latest thinking in language teaching; and to learn more about quality practice both in the national and international contexts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, we need to mention research, and, more specficially, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">research methods<\/span>. Language teaching involves both content knowledge and practical skills, and both must be considered when designing research projects. The research carried out by <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>PLURAL<\/strong><\/span> has consistently recognised the need to improve not only theoretical knowledge and understandings relating to education, but also the process of putting these into practice in schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>theoretical frameworks<\/strong><\/span> on which the group\u2019s research projects are structured are situated within the following paradigms: <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">sociocultural psychology<\/span><\/strong>, which perceives learning as a social process, situated within a cultural context (Wertsch, 1991); <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Activity Theory<\/span><\/strong>, which conceives language as a result of an activity directed towards a specific goal (Luria, 1980; Engestr\u00f6m, 1999); <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">interaction analysis<\/span><\/strong>, through which learning processes are developed (Kerbrat-Orecchioni, 1992); <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">ethnography<\/span><\/strong> as a tool to understand agents and their actions within different cultural contexts (Cambra, 2003); and the <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">examination of beliefs<\/span><\/strong> as a point of reference for studies regarding teacher education (Woods, 2003; Kalaja, 2003).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The research conducted by the PLURAL group to date has been realised in three different areas.
