Mark D. HANNINGTON (Department of Earth Sciences, Universitat d'Ottawa, Canadà)

Mark Hannington is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Ottawa and holds the Goldcorp Chair in Economic Geology. Prior to joining u Ottawa in 2005, he was a senior research scientist at Geological Survey of Canada for 15 years. His research combines the study of ancient volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits with active hydrothermal systems on the modern sea floor. As part of this work, Mark and his students have participated on 29 research cruises in nearly all of the world's oceans. His land-based research included a five-year multidisciplinary study of the giant Kidd Creek deposit as well as comprehensive mineral-chemical studies of regional-scale alteration in major VMS districts. Mark has co-supervised 21 MSc and PhD students and has co-authored more than 90 refereed papers in international journals and books. From 2001 to 2008, he was editor of the journal Economic Geology.
