Descripció:
The numerous varieties of ornamental stones can be recognized by the eye on the basis of their chromatic, granulometric and textural characteristics, which result from the color, grain-size, shape and mutual relations of their mineral components. The qualitative description of the visual characteristics can be remarkably improved by a quantitative evaluation of some relevant chromatic and granulometric parameters, by means of image analysis techniques, integrating several petrographic data, including modal data, that can be extracted from digital color images of tiles of rocks and used for a large spectrum of applications. A procedure was developed that combines general purpose facilities for image acquisition and analysis with data processing schemes based on Excel. The most immediate application is the possibility to archive a large amount of data relative to the color and grain-size of materials and to handle them for classification purposes and database creation, giv
