Descripció:
The orogenic gold occurrences of the Gerrei district (SE Sardinia) have been defined by Garbarino et al. (2003). Au-bearing ores are hosted in Paleozoic greenschist facies metamorphic rocks; quartz-sulfide-Au veins, stockworks and lenses are associated to late-Variscan brittle and brittle to ductile shear zones, extensional fractures and D2-D3 antiform folds. These structures developed in an extensional regime that dismantled the deca-kilometric Flumendosa Antiform, the most important regional tectonic feature of the area. The highest gold grades, possibly economic, have been reported from Monte Ollasteddu and Brecca (E Gerrei). In these areas, structural and mineralogical data indicate repeated mineralizing events, related to an evolving tectonic framework.
