Descripció:
Living organisms fabricate more than 60 different biogenic minerals. Among them biogenic carbonates, basically calcium carbonates, followed of phosphates, are in terms of taxonomic distribution, the most widely utilized inorganic constituents. The organic fraction associated with biominerals is mainly composed of macromolecules. Macromolecules fulfill important functions in biomineralisation: i) framework macromolecules form the mould or framework in which the mineral forms and are relatively hydrophobic; ii) acidic macromolecules are highly charged and are thought to participate in the regulation of the mineral formation. In vitro experiments demonstrated that macromolecules must have active role in the regulation of the nucleation, polymorph selection, crystal orientation and growth, the formation of the mineral texture and the cessation of growth. In this talk, the role of the organic phase during biomineralization of calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate is illustr
