Conferència: The 3D Seismic Velocity Field of the Crust in Central Java, Indonesia

Notícia | 11-10-2006

Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica convida a la conferència que farà la Sra. Diana Wagner, Kiel University, Institute for Geosciencies/Depart. of Geophysics.

Seismic and volcanic activity in Central Java are related to the subduction of the Indo-Australian plate beneath Java and Sumatra. In the framework of the MERAMEX (MERapi AMphibiuos EXperiments)- project a temporary seismological network consisting of more than 100 stations was installed on- and offshore Central Java to record the local seismicity. In addition, active marine seismic experiments were carried out offshore. Airgun shots were recorded also onshore within the temporary network. A joint tomographic inversion including both active and passive seismic data was performed. The resulting images show a strong low-velocity anomaly in the backarc crust just behind the active volcanoes. I will talk about the 3D seismic velocity field gained by tomographic studies and by forward modeling of the seismic wide-angle profiles.
