IODP-USIO Diversity Internship

Notícia | 31-03-2011

Funded through the IODP-USIO, the Diversity Internship is designed to expose minority students to careers in scientific ocean drilling by providing them with a 10-12 week educational and career building experience at one of the institutions that comprises the IODP-USIO. The internship also highlights opportunities within IODP and science program management that may encourage students/interns to pursue advanced studies in Earth System Sciences (or complementary fields) and/or careers in scientific ocean drilling. IODP, which is one of the world's largest international marine research programs, is dedicated to advancing understanding of Earth's processes through scientific drilling of the ocean floor.

Internship opportunities and locations vary each year, as projects with a focus in science, engineering, education, or communications are developed with IODP-USIO programmatic needs and priorities in mind.

* The internship provides a stipend of $600 a week. Interns are not considered employees of the IODP-USIO.
* Travel to and from the internship site will be paid by the IODP-USIO.
* Living accommodations and expenses are the responsibility of the Intern.
* Medical insurance coverage will remain with his/her individual policy or student group health insurance.
