The objective of Full waveform inversion is to derive physical properties from observed data. Its high resolution respect to other imaging methods sparks interest of industries and scientists. However the high non-linearity of the problem and its high computational cost made FWI a still ''on work'' tool, and part of the current research is concentrated in reducing these drawbacks. We will present the basic steps of a FWI algorithm and pay special attention to the adjoin method (Tarantola, 1984) and multi-shooting techniques. Next, we will illustrate these concepts by applying our FWI algorithm to the Marmousi geological model.
