PhD opportunities in Planetary Science/Geomorphology at the Open University
They are offering three PhD projects in the field of planetary geomorphology to start in October 2015.
The geomorphology of glacial landscapes on Mars is a remote-sensing study employing geomorphological mapping of the martian surface, complemented by glacial flow modelling and/or remote-sensing studies on Earth.
Metastable flows on Mars: laboratory investigation of downslope sediment transport on Mars is a project using the world-leading large Mars Chamber facility in which basic flume experiments can be performed under low martian atmospheric pressure, but can involve remote sensing or numerical modelling depending on the candidate's preference.
Geological mapping of the planet Mercury: this a remote-sensing and GIS project to produce the first geological map(s) of Mercury's surface using the new MESSENGER data. These map(s) will be published by the US Geological Survey and will be used to prepare for Europe's future Mercury mission (BepiColombo).
