Presentation

The group is led by Dr. Francisco Lozano (Consultor Senior, Servei d’Immunologia, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona; and Professor Titular of Immunology, School of Medicine, Universitat de Barcelona). The group was set up in 1995 after Dr. Lozano’s post-doctoral training at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, U.K.), where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Cesar Milstein (Nobel laureate for Medicine and Physiology) on transgenic models for the study of somatic hypermutation and the transcriptional control of immunoglobulin genes. Once settled, the group initially took up studies mainly on lymphocyte activation, and later on extended them to the physiology of lymphoid and non-lymphoid members of the SRCR superfamily of immune receptors, as well as to the field of immunogenetics of autoimmunity, infection and cancer. The group has been recognized as Consolidated Research Group by the Catalan Government and its work has deserved continued support from public and private national and international agencies, aside from generating 17 Doctoral Thesis, 4 patents, 1 spin-off, and ~150 publications (original and reviews) in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
