It represents the kick-off meeting of the project “Heat Waves in America: a focus on Mexico and Central America”, supported by the Unión Iberoamericana de Universidades (UIU) - integrated by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP), and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

The workshop dealt with basic concepts of climatology and statistics to understand heat waves. The aim was to discuss diagnostics and analysis on heat waves over Argentina, Brasil and Spain, and to define a methodology to characterize heat waves over the Mexican Republic and Central America.
