Indicators and rankings

Every year, the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona is among the leading universities worldwide in major rankings in its disciplinary area. This information was updated in November 2018.

Leiden Ranking
Leiden Ranking

The Leiden Ranking is produced by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of the Leiden university, and evaluates the scientific performance of the best universities worlwide. It is based on a set of indicators that measure productivity, scientific impact and the degree of collaboration of each university centre of publications in the data bases featured in Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science during the period 2008-2011.

The Faculty of Economics and Business is placed among the best 150 universities worldwide in this area in the 2018 ranking.

University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP)

The URAP evaluates the impact of the scientific activity of institutions with bibliometric indicators related to the number of articles, citations, publications, international collaborations, etc.

The Faculty is placed amont the 200 most outstanding universities worldwide in the area of economy, among the 400 best in the area of business, and among the 150 best in sociology in the 2017-2018 ranking.

Tilburg Ranking

Every year, Tilburg University publishes a ranking of the leading universities in economic research. Classification is based on the number of publications in the 74 main international publications in this area.

The data for 2017 reflect the publications corresponding to the period 2013-2017 and place the Faculty of Economics and Business among the 200 best universities in research on econometrics, economics and finance.

The National Taiwan University Rànquing (NTU) continues the work carried out by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) and was one of the first international rankings to calculate positions using a series of indicators related to scientific publications by discipline.

In the 2017 edition, the Faculty occupies the 154th position in the area of Social Sciences, to which the Faculty of Economics and Business belongs.

RePEc/IDEAS rankings

The RePEc/IDEAS is one of the main bibliographic data bases exclusively devoted to research in economics. Its classification is generated from the data registered for researchers and authors in RePEc, the institutions featured in the EDIRC index, bibliographic statistics registered by RePEc, the analysis of citations in CITEC and the data gathered by LogEc.

The latest editions of the ranking, which is updated every month, place the Faculty of Economics and Business among the leading 5% worldwide out of a list including nearly 8,000 institutions with more than 50,000 registered researchers. In May 2018, we carried out a thorough analysis of this ranking, which can be found here.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (AWRU), also known as Shanghai Ranking, analyzes six bibliometric indicators for different disciplines. It combines information on the number of relevant awards (Nobel Prize, Fields Medal) obtained by students and teaching staff of the universities considered, the most cited researchers in the 21 research areas defined by Clarivate Analytics, articles published in Nature and Science, articles registered in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) of Journal Citation Reports and academic efficiency according to the institutions' sizes.

In the 2017 ranking, the Faculty appears among the 151-200 best worldwide in the area of economics.

Best Global Universities

Best Global Universities is produced by the journal US News and based on a set of indicators including, among other bibliometric indicators, international prestige of research, regional prestige, scientific publications, total number of citations, and international conferences and collaborations.

In the 2018 edition, the Faculty is found among the 200 most outstanding universities worldwide in the area of economics and business.

QS Top Universities Ranking

The QS Ranking is one of the reference rankings that offers data relating to disciplines on the basis of three criteria: academic prestige of the institution, prestige among those responsible for hiring university graduates and citations in scientific articles.

In the 2018 QS ranking, the University of Barcelona occupies the 110th position in the area of social sciences and business management, to which the Faculty of Economics and Business belongs. As for the disciplines of the Faculty of Economics and Business, the UB ranks among the 51-100 best universities worldwide in sociology, among the 101-150 best in economics and econometrics, among the 101-150 best in accounting and finance, and among the 51-100 best in statistics and operative research.
