Objectives and competences


  • Analyse and plan the task of education in response to the needs of current society.
  • Understand the characteristics and conditions under which school learning takes place and carry out a tutorial function, guiding parents and students.
  • Act as mediators so that the classroom activity is significant and stimulates all students' potential to develop.

General competences

The general competences described in the report on the bachelor's degree Teacher in Primary Education are based on an understanding of learning as a complex, diverse, universal phenomenon involving the capacity to regulate the process yourself, adapt to new situations, and combine information from different fields to create new knowledge. From this perspective, information needs must be identified, analysed, and communicated in different registers in a critical, creative way to solve problems and manage projects. To achieve this, criticism and self-criticism, as well as personal and professional ethical commitment, are required. The social and environmental impact must be evaluated to improve quality.  

Specific competences

The specific competences that students should develop in the bachelor's degree Teacher in Primary Education are focused on key concepts such as understanding the characteristics and conditions of learning, to determine how to influence student development in different contexts and family situations. It is important to understand how schools and adult education classes are organised, and to share knowledge and evaluate experiences through group work. In terms of the organisation of teaching, it is vital that interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge is organised in an integrated, independent way, based on designing projects that embrace diversity. Consequently, it is important to identify and help students with learning or behavioural difficulties, and know how to request advice from various services and specialists.
Teaching involves improving, updating and adapting to the latest scientific, educational, social and cultural changes. Therefore, it is essential to participate in innovation projects that incorporate information and communication technologies to foster a critical and responsible attitude in students, and to analyse the complexity of the teacher's role in the relationship between school and society, from an ethical and responsible perspective.
