Political and Administration Science

Introduction

The University of Barcelona first offered a bachelor's degree in Political and Administration Sciences in the 1994-1995 academic year. The theoretical objective of the course is to analyse power, the political system, the state and the public administration. Consequently, the bachelor's degree in Political and Administration Sciences is designed to train competent professionals in areas related to the political world, and specifically activities associated with analysis, advise and support for political decisions and activities.

Political studies are essentially multidisciplinary, due to the nature of politics and its presence in all social phenomena. The course syllabus for the bachelor's degree in Political and Administration Sciences has political, legal, economic and methodological contents, and also covers some sociological and historical areas. As the course focuses on politics as a space for citizens, it also provides knowledge and discussion of contemporary issues such as gender, immigration, poverty and ecology.

This bachelor's degree has a practical focus that stresses sound empirical knowledge of politics, the comparison of political systems, the international dimension, and public policies. Therefore, our bachelor's degree provides an opportunity to specialise in one of three areas: Comparative Politics, Public Policies, and Techniques and Procedures.

There are good job prospects in this field. In recent years, the presence of political and administration sciences graduates in professional sectors has been consolidated, in both the public and private arenas.
