Doctoral research

The doctoral programme in Information and Communication is a university qualification adapted to the European higher education area (EHEA) taught jointly by the Universitat de Barcelona (Departament of Biblioteconomy, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication) and the University of Zaragoza (Departament of Documentation Sciencies and History of Science).

The main aim of this doctoral programme is to train new researchers in the areas of information and documentation and in communication. The programme aims at training researchers with the skills necessary to take on the challenges posed by the information society and advise the institutions that have traditionally worked in this field in a historical moment requiring new conceptual approaches, new research methods and new mechanisms for professional intervention and business models.

Given the special profile of the programme, trained researchers will be able to pursue an academic and a professional career. After their studies, researchers of this programme must be able to offer strategic, organizational and technological recommendations in a wide range of institutions and information and communication centres, including public libraries, school libraries, university learning and research resources centres (CRAI), public administration and company web sites, centres for digital or digitalized heritage management or audiovisual production and dissemation centres.
