Cicle Continuat de Conferències de la FMiCS: "From Genome Instability to Cancer Therapy: Targeting Transcription-Replication Conflicts"
El proper 30 d'abril de 2025 a les 12:00 l'Aula 4.1 de la Facultat de Medicina (Campus Clínic) acollirà un nou seminari del Cicle Continuat de Conferències de la Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut.
El seminari titulat "From Genome Instability to Cancer Therapy: Targeting Transcription-Replication Conflicts” serà a càrrec del Dr. Aleix Bayona-Feliu, investigador Ramon y Cajal del Departament de Genètica, Microbiologia i Estadística, Facultat de Biologia, Universitat de Barcelona.
Aquest seminari s'adreça a tot el PDI de la Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut i als centres de recerca de Barcelona i no cal inscripció prèvia per assistir-hi.
A continuació, una breu sinopsi dels temes que abordarà el Dr. Aleix Bayona-Feliu durant al sessió:
Genome Instability (GIN) is a cell pathology linked to cancer promotion and tumor evolution. Transcription is a fundamental cellular process, yet also a potential source of DNA damage and GIN. Transcription-replication conflicts (TRCs) are a major driver of GIN, and impaired TRC resolution can severely compromise genome integrity. Chromatin dynamics play a crucial role in orchestrating the cellular response to transcription-replication conflicts (TRCs), safeguarding genome integrity. Notably, various epigenetic deficiencies can trigger transcription-induced DNA replication stress, leading to DNA breaks and mutations. In line with this, chromatin alterations are prevalent in cancer and are associated with an elevated mutation burden at TRC-prone regions in tumors. In this talk, I will explore the current understanding of TRC processing, its dysfunction, and its role in cancer, emphasizing the clinical potential of targeting TRCs as a therapeutic strategy.
