Approval, deposit and formalities prior to the defense of the doctoral thesis

Once the doctoral thesis has been completed, the doctorand must ask the academic committee of the programme to authorise it. This application may be submitted provided that the research plan has obtained two consecutive positive annual monitoring and evaluation reports

The application for authorisation to deposit the doctoral thesis, in accordance with the standardized model, must be submitted by the Generic Instance System, and must be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. Reports by the thesis director and tutor, on deposit authorization.
  2. A copy of the thesis signed by the / by the doctorand/a (submitted by email to fil-doctorat@ub.edu, to avoid weight problems in the generic instance system UB, which must be the route of submission of the request and the rest of the documentation).

    A copy of the same thesis sent electronically, framed with a hard cover, signed on the first page, to be delivered to the SED in person, by appointment, previously arranged through fil-doctorat@ub.edu.

    Format to have the thesis submitted:
    At least the following information must be included on the front page or on the first page: the corporate image of the UB, the name of the doctoral programme, the thesis title, the doctorand's name and surname, the name and surnames of the thesis director and tutor. Theses must include a summary, a general introduction, objectives, methodology, results or argumental development, final conclusions and bibliography. Academic commissions of programs may set other format and content requirements depending on the scope of the thesis. In the case of submitting a thesis as a compendium of publications or theses subject to processes of protection or transfer of technology or knowledge, consideration must be given to what is laid down in this regulation.

    This thesis, once approved for defence, will not allow any modification or addition.
  3. Doctorand Curriculum
  4. A summary of the doctoral thesis with a maximum recommended extension of 600 words, in the same language in which it was written.
  5. English extract with a recommended maximum length of 350 words. If the thesis is written in English, this summary can be done in another language (Catalan, Spanish, etc.)
  6. TESEO data record to complete the TESEO database of doctoral theses from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Deporte (see UNESCO codes).
  7. Authorization document for publication in UB repository and TDX thesis repository, filled with clear or computerized and signed letter.The electronic archive opened in an institutional repository has been mandatory since 11 February 2012, in application of Article 14 of Royal Decree 99/2011. Therefore, all the thesis read at the University of Barcelona from this date are archived in the institutional repository, Digital Repository of the UB - doctoral thesis, and in the cooperative repository of the TDX theses.

  8. Personal and academic data sheet, filled with clear letter or computer and signed.

  9. The complementary documents that are established, corresponding to the thesis presented as a compendium of publications, those written in languages other than those specified in the programme, mention of a European doctor and cotutela.
  10. Declaration signed by the doctorand, on compliance with ethical codes and good practices.
  11. Declaration signed by the thesis directorate, on compliance with ethical codes and good practices.
  12. Other documents that the Academic Commission of the specific programme has been able to establish.

Term to resolve request

A maximum of 20 days, to be counted from the day the application was submitted to the General Register.

Repository term

Seven working days to count from the day after the repository's communication to the web.
During the deposit period, any doctor can examine the thesis and formulate, in writing, any considerations he considers appropriate regarding the content of the Commission on the Authorisation of the Defence of Thesis of the Doctorate School.

Publicació electrònica de la tesi doctoral

Once the doctoral thesis has been defended, the procedures for its electronic archive will be carried out both in the institutional repository UB and in the TDX database, which collects in electronic format the theses read in the university field of the Catalan Countries.

The work defended in the Teseo database of the Ministry of Education and Culture will also be published.

 

To complete the process, the doctorand must process the issuing of his doctor's degree to the Secretariat of the Faculty.
