Objectives and competences

Objectives

  • Provide an interdisciplinary education in the social sciences, arts, humanities, and communication technologies.
  • Foster a critical, analytical, and reflective capacity regarding the communicative phenomenon, coupled with a humanistic, artistic, and technical understanding of the forms, processes, and trends in the different types of communication (oral, written, visual, audiovisual, and multimedia).
  • Facilitate a basic and comprehensive understanding of the main events and messages that shape the current communicative and cultural landscape.
  • Offer an in-depth knowledge of the processes and techniques involved in the creation and dissemination of messages at their various stages, as well as the interrelations between the communicative and cultural domains, especially within the digital environment.
  • Introduce the concepts and methodologies applicable to the research areas of communication and new technological environments.
  • Equip individuals with the ability to express themselves clearly and coherently in the community’s native language(s) and to have proficiency in other languages, particularly English, to communicate competently in their profession.
  • Implement teamwork habits and attitudes essential for the development of collective projects.
  • Foster the ability to handle professional situations autonomously and effectively.

  • Knowledge or content
    • To understand the historical and theoretical evolution of communication and cultural industries in terms of their different modalities and processes
    • Possess the knowledge required to understand the structure, functioning and production characteristic of the communication landscape and cultural industries
    • Identify the methodologies as well as the main work and research techniques of the current communication panorama, in order to be able to carry out an adequate exploitation of these within different types of projects
    • Have the knowledge required to design and organise the creation of products, projects and services in the field of some of the different cultural sectors
    • Identify those techniques and strategies of communication within various specific or specialized areas in order to be able to develop professionally within them
  • Skills or abilities
    • To express themselves orally and in writing effectively in Catalan and Spanish and in a third language, with mastery of the specialized language of the discipline
    • Analyse messages, discourses and communicative, advertising and cultural content of different formats, which may circulate through various media or channels
    • To design both communicative and cultural projects or content of different formats, for their development and dissemination through different media or channels
    • To plan the creation of products, projects and services in the field of the different cultural sectors and communication fields, especially with the intervention of new technological resources and technical strategies
    • Make appropriate use of the organizational, operational and creative techniques and skills required for the development of audiovisual and multimedia messages and content
  • Competences
    • Develop critical reasoning and a commitment to the plurality and diversity of realities of today's society, from respect for fundamental rights, equality between women and men and non-discrimination
    • Work as a team in an efficient and coordinated manner, both in disciplinary and interdisciplinary teams, in the design, management, planning and execution of projects and collective challenges in the respective disciplinary framework
    • Develop autonomous learning skills based on the ability to analyse, reflect, synthesize, give global views and expert reasoning
    • Make effective use of the processes and techniques for the design, development and dissemination of actions and projects linked to the communicative and cultural sectors, demonstrating a practical mastery of their specific tools and methodologies
    • Develop the most outstanding digital skills that are required within the development of communicative and cultural activities in the current context
