Published on 14 December, 2020

On September 2 and 3, the II Research Seminar on Political Communication was held at the Faculty of Philology and Communication, organized by the Group for the Multidisciplinary Analysis of Political Discourse and Communication. This second edition, held virtually, had the title "The fight for the construction of narrative in politics."

The Seminar began with a welcome message from Javier Velaza, dean of the Faculty of Philology and Communication. Next, Joan G. Burguera-Serra, Principal Investigator of the Group for Multidisciplinary Analysis of Discourse and Political Communication and member of the organizing committee, presented the inaugural conference. It had the title "Disputed Stories: Nostalgia, Fears and Dreams", and was held by Antoni Gutiérrez -Rubí, consultant, expert in political communication and collaborator in La Vanguardia, El País, El Periódico de Cataluña and Cadena Ser, among others.

This was followed by the first block of the Seminar, entitled “Tools and strategies for the construction of the political narrative”, which was presented by Juanjo Caballero, member of the organizing committee. The talks were held by Professors Joan Julibert, Eva Martínez, Julio Hardisson and Marta Consuegra.

In the afternoon, the second block started. It was presented by Eva Martínez, and had the title "Seeing is believing: the audiovisual industry at the service of the creation of the political message”. It had the interventions of Dr. Anna Tarragó, Dr. Endika Rey, Dr. Olatz Larrea, Dr. Juanjo Caballero and Professor Jordi Hernández. The talks revolved around fiction as a means of representation of social control policies, social networks as creators of a public image (taking the specific case of Melania Trump as a reference) and artificial intelligence as an articulating element of a playful political discourse.

The second day of the Seminar began with its third and last block, entitled "Construction of political narrative at the service of governments." Presented by Dr. Anna Tarragó, it had the participation of Joan G. Burguera-Serra and professors Raül Flores and Jaume Aguilar.

The Seminar’s last activity was the Writing and Speeches Workshop, held by Dr. Olatz Larrea and Professor Meritxell Martínez, who offered the participants tools to write and carry out a political speech.

The II Research Seminar on Political Communication was very successful in attendance, with online sessions that were followed by 120 people.
