#CICNews | What we have done during the second four-month period of 2019-20

Published on 1 February, 2021

The second four-month period of the 2019-20 academic year has been atypical and, as has happened in all sectors of work and educational activity, the situation of exceptionality has forced us to adapt to conditions very different from the usual ones. Even so, the confinement and the lack of face-to-face classes have not prevented the CIC Degree students from taking part in a series of very enriching activities. Here is a brief summary of them.

In the framework of the subject “TV and radio in the XXI century”, taught by Sílvia Cóppulo, Meritxell Martínez, Àlex Vallejo and Olatz Larrea, on April 28 the students received a virtual visit from Tatxo Benet, journalist and one of the founding members of Mediapro. During the meeting, he shared his experience in the world of communication, and gave his opinion on the current situation and the future of television and audio-visual media.

On May 12, Natàlia Ramon, Catalunya Ràdio’s assistant manager of news, gave a virtual master class where she explained to the students the process of adapting radio journalism to digital media and to the immediacy of social networks.

Regarding the students’ own projects, despite the limitations imposed by the current situation, with effort and creativity they have managed to overcome adversity and carry out very interesting projects by adapting to the use of mobile devices.

For example, the students of the subject Genres and Formats of Oral Communication, taught by Josefina Carrera-Sabaté and Alba Jiménez, developed a set of videos about vulnerable groups within the situation of COVID-19. Thus, they were able to deepen their oral expression and argumentation skills while dealing with topics with a clear social impact.

On the other hand, the students of the subject “The audio-visual production process”, taught by professors Endika Rey and Marta Ávila, carried out a series of projects, this year with different premises: the usual short film or web-series projects were replaced by the development of a sales dossier with mood, teaser and video pitch, or by the production of an audio-visual piece (fictional or non-fictional) about confinement.

We are closing the semester, therefore, eager to start a new stage with the 2020-21 academic year.
