Direction and tutoring of the doctoral thesis

The director and tutor are assigned by the Program Academic Commission during the student admissions process to the doctoral program and must meet the requirements established by the UB Doctorate Standard.

The thesis tutor is responsible for monitoring the doctorand's interaction with the academic program Commission.

The thesis director is responsible for the coherence and suitability of training activities and the impact and novelty of the thesis in his field, of the guide in planning and of adapting, if applicable, to other projects and activities for which the doctorand is interested.

The Program Academic Commission can assign two thesis directors under co-direction. A third director may also be assigned, at most in the second academic year of the doctorand, under the criteria established by the UB Doctorate Normative.

Throughout the course of study, where there are justified causes, a change in the direction or in the tutoring of the thesis may be necessary.

This change can be agreed by the Program Academic Commission at any time in the process in accordance with the criteria and procedure regulated in the UB Doctorate Standard.

If the doctorand wishes to apply for this change, it must submit a request, through the Secretariat of the Faculty attaching a Compromise Document signed by all those involved and reasoning the reasons for this request. In the event that the application for change obtains the favourable agreement of the academic committee of the programme, the new document will replace the previous one.
