Information for companies and institutions

In order to promote contact between students and companies and with the aim of contributing to the acquisition of student knowledge in the workplace, the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the University of Barcelona has a program of external curricular practices aimed exclusively at undergraduate students.

The subject "External internships" is part of the majority of undergraduate degrees offered by the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona. Third and fourth year students of these studies can access it.

"External internships" consist of a 180-hour stay in a collaborating entity (company or institution, public or private) with which the Faculty establishes an educational cooperation agreement. The tasks that the students must perform in the collaborating entities must be in line with the skills they develop in their education, and must also be supervised by a tutor that the company or institution will assign to the institution student.

The completion of the curricular external internships will entail the inclusion of the student in the general Social Security regime. On the other hand, the external internship agreement established between the entity and the Faculty of Philology and Communication may provide for remuneration for the student by the entity. In the event that these curricular internships are remunerated, compliance with the obligation to register and deregister from Social Security corresponds to the entity. If they are not remunerated, it will be the responsibility of the University of Barcelona.

In the period between the end of January and the beginning of March, the entities must communicate their offer of places for external curricular internships for the coming year.

To apply for internships at the Faculty of Philology and Communication, it is necessary to be registered in GIPE, the internship management platform of the University of Barcelona, and to send one or more offers, depending on the academic profile and the number of students in internships you want to host. If your organization is already registered, enter directly with your user code and password. If not, you will need to register your entity's details and, once the registration has been confirmed, you will need to return to the authentication page to access the GIPE and submit your offer.

The publication of the offer in the GIPE, which is a free service, will take effect once it has been validated by the Internship Office of the Faculty of Philology and Communication.

Entities must bear in mind that the student does not receive financial aid from any organization for carrying out curricular practices. Therefore, the tasks that the student will carry out at the entity must provide him with theoretical and practical knowledge and a profit for his formation. In addition, once the subject "External internships" has been successfully completed, the student obtains the recognition of 6 credits.

For any query, you can contact the Internship Office (fil-practiques@ub.edu).

In mid-April, interested students can consult the list and characteristics of the places offered by the collaborating entities.

Students who want to apply for a place must register. Compulsorily, at the time of making this registration, they must have passed 120 credits of their education (the equivalent of two of the four years of the degree qualification).

The selection of students corresponds to the Internship Office, which assigns the student a destination taking into account their academic profile, their record, their preferences and the availability of places. Once the place has been awarded, an academic tutor is assigned who will monitor and supervise the student.

The Internship Office will process an educational cooperation agreement with the entity that will host the student. This document will be extended annually, for four years, if none of the two parties (Faculty of Philology and Communication and collaborating entity) express their wish to cancel the agreement. In this way, the agreement is valid in case there are future students doing internships at the institution. The Faculty of Philology and Communication assumes the cost of managing the agreement.

In addition, the Internship Office will process the training project (individual internship program) of the selected student.

The curricular practices are carried out during the academic year and, therefore, the student can do them either between the end of September and December (first period) or between February and May (second period). In any case, the institution will indicate in the internship offer in which period it wants to accommodate the student.

It is required that the student has a tutor at the institution where he will do the internship, who must supervise and supervise his stay. For its part, the Faculty of Philology and Communication will appoint an academic tutor per student. These tutors are professors from the faculty who are part of the teaching team linked to the subject "External internships".

At the end of the student's stay, the institution's internship tutor will assess the degree of satisfaction with the internships carried out through a document drawn up by the Internship Office. This report, together with the report that the student will make, will be used for the evaluation of the student in the subject "External internships".

  • From the end of January to the beginning of March: Collaborating companies and institutions must communicate their offer of internships.
  • April: Once the offers have been validated, they will be made public for students and a registration deadline will open.
  • May: The Internship Office will review registrations and assign places.
  • From June 1 to 15: The resolution will be published in the GIPE and a period will be opened for students to formally accept the assigned place or resign through the same platform. If applicable, the publication of vacant places will be evaluated and a second registration deadline will be called.
  • Beginning of July: The collaborating entity receives the list of students in practice who will join during the next academic year. From this moment, the management of the training projects and also the contact between the tutor of the entity and the academic tutor of the students begins.
