Information for companies and institutions

In order to promote contact between students and companies and with the aim of contributing to the acquisition of student knowledge in the workplace, the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the University of Barcelona has a non-curricular externship program aimed at undergraduate, master's and postgraduate students.

In accordance with current legislation, entities (companies and institutions) can collaborate with universities to host students on internships through the signing of an educational cooperation agreement between the two parties, specifically between the Faculty of Philology and Communication (UB) and the entity.

This collaboration involves agreeing between the two parties the contents of the work plan or program, known as the training project, an essential document that specifies the characteristics of the practices in relation to a specific student: duration, schedule, tasks, tutors, remuneration, etc.

  • The student cannot have any employment relationship with the institution where the internship takes place.
  • The internships must be carried out within the academic period to which the enrollment entitles, which includes from mid-September to mid-September of the following year.
  • Extracurricular internships can be conceived as a “bag” of a total of 1,500 hours that students, once they have obtained 120 credits of their degree, can begin to carry out throughout their university life. The distribution of these hours of non-curricular practices is not previously established. Once the 1,500 hous were exhausted, students could no longer do more, even if they were still enrolled in more courses.
  • The student can carry out a maximum of 5 hours of practice per day (equivalent to 25 hours per week), without being able to interfere with the class schedule. This day can be extended to 8 hours a day in non-teaching periods.
  • It is required that a professional from the institution supervises and supervises the student's stay in practice.
  • At the time of signing the agreement, the entity must pay the Faculty of Philology and Communication the cost of managing the training project for each of the students accepted for internships (140 euros + VAT), for which an invoice can be requested by contacting with the Administration of Philology and Communication (fil-afersgenerals@ub.edu).
  • The student must be registered and discharged from the Social Security by the entity, which must settle the contributions before the Treasury of the Social Security, according to current legislation.
  • The student's activity in the company or institution is carried out, both for curricular and non-curricular external internships, under the coverage of the compulsory school insurance subscribed as a student of the University of Barcelona. If the student is over 28 years old, and does not have this compulsory insurance, he must have his own insurance policy subscribed.
  • Once the internship period has ended, the student can request from the institution a certificate of completion of the internship that will serve as a reference letter for future jobs.

Whether the company or institution already has a selected student or if it does not yet have candidates to carry out the internship, the entity's data must be recorded in the GIPE (if this has not been done previously) and they must enter the details of the offer.

If the institution already has a selected student, the offer will not be made public. The entity may request the agreement, using the corresponding GIPE form.

The tasks that the student will carry out must be linked to the professional skills relating to the philological field.

The offer must include an established minimum remuneration that the student will receive in the form of a scholarship or study aid.
