Final project

Features

The Final Master's Project (TFM) consists of carrying out a research project of its own, which is integrated into the research lines of the groups and projects linked to the program and directed by specialists in the chosen discipline. Through the TFM, the student integrates and applies the competences acquired throughout the master's degree, incorporates new ones specifically related to the TFM, and broadens and deepens the knowledge acquired in the rest of the master's subjects.

In the TFM the student can present both the results of an original investigation and critical expositions of recent research results. Given the load of credits of the TFM (20 ECTS credits) and the research orientation of the master, for many students, the TFM becomes the embryo of their future doctoral thesis in the framework of the research line Cultures and languages of the ancient world and his survival of the PhD Program Linguistic, literary and cultural studies of the University of Barcelona.

The TFM cannot have been presented previously in any other master's degree at the UB or in any other academic institution.

The TFM must have the characteristics of a research work. As an orientation, in terms of its extension, it is considered that it should have a minimum number of 50 pages, which may vary depending on the criteria of the director of the TFM. Regarding its structure, it is recommended that it contains an introduction, an exposition of the state of the question and the methodology used, the development of the research work, some conclusions, a bibliography and, if necessary, a documentary appendix and some indexes.

The master does not set style rules for the development of the TFM but requires consistency and rigor, especially in the way of quoting the bibliography.

The tutor guides, directs and supervises the student's Final project. Thus, during its preparation, the tutor provides guidance and advice on theoretical, methodological and bibliographic issues and about the format of the TFM. Subsequently, it corrects the final version presented by the student and expressly authorizes its presentation.

The students choose the tutors of their TFM and establish, consequently, directly with them the subject of their research. In this process, the master coordinator advises and guides the students.

When it is considered convenient for academic reasons, the Master commission authorizes the co-direction of the TFM with professors of the same program. If the Master commission authorizes it, a specialist outside the program can also be a tutor.
