Recommended applicant profile

Applicants should be particularly sensitive to the challenges of energy sustainability and wish to acquire rigorous academic training in this field, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy, in order to work in the area of research, innovation and development.

To ensure success in this master's degree, applicants should have a strong level of physics, chemistry and mathematics, user-level IT skills, and a good working knowledge of English. The degree is also open to professionals in the private sector who wish to broaden their knowledge of specific fields or techniques.

Admission requirements

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students must hold one of the following qualifications to access university master's degree courses:
  • An official Spanish degree.
  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
  • A qualification from outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, the qualification should be recognized as equivalent to an official Spanish degree. If it is not recognized, the University of Barcelona shall verify that it corresponds to a level of education that is equivalent to official Spanish degrees and that it authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Specific requirements

Prospective students should hold a bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, materials engineering, geological engineering, chemical engineering, electronic telecommunications engineering, energy engineering or industrial technology engineering. Candidates with degrees in other disciplines may also be considered, depending on the suitability of their academic record and professional experience. If they are admitted, these students will be asked to complete additional bridging courses to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to start the master's degree syllabus. The bridging courses will be compulsory subjects from the bachelor's degrees in Physics and Chemistry taught at the UB.

Holders of undergraduate degrees issued outside Spain with a study load equivalent to 180 credits may be admitted directly or asked to complete bridging courses, depending on the content and strength of their academic records. As above, the bridging courses will be compulsory subjects from the bachelor's degrees in Physics and Chemistry. Students will be required to complete up to 30 additional credits.
