Institutions and Citizenship: Professor Enric Pol to Speak at the Next UB Science Café
On 10 December, the University of Barcelona will host a new edition of its Science Café, this time focusing on the erosion of public trust in institutions and the social challenges linked to this phenomenon. The session, titled “Institutions and Citizenship: A Relationship Under Review,” will bring together experts from different fields to examine the roots of institutional disengagement, its impact on political, educational and healthcare systems, and possible ways to rebuild the relationship between institutions and society.
This edition will feature Dr Enric Pol Urrutia, emeritus professor of the Social Psychology Section at the Faculty of Psychology. An internationally recognised figure in social and environmental psychology, he has led the UB Department of Social Psychology and founded the Research Group in Social, Environmental and Organisational Psychology (PsicoSAO).
The session will open a discussion on a growing trend, particularly among younger generations. The loss of trust in institutions affects far more than political life: it also shapes public health, educational quality and social cohesion. The Science Café aims to provide a space to understand these dynamics and explore ways to strengthen institutional credibility and civic engagement.
Other speakers include Francesc Amat (Economics and Business), Aroa Casado (Medicine and Health Sciences) and Karine Rivas (Education). The event will be moderated by Marga Becerra from the UB Science and Innovation Culture Unit.
The session will take place on 10 December 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the Assumpció Català Room of the UB Historical Building. Attendance is limited to forty participants and requires prior registration.
