Two nanoscale systems that modestly aim to emulate aspects of biological tracks and walking molecules will be discussed. In the first, rows of copper atoms guide the diffusion of a molecular walker, which offers the prospect of controlled directional movement when chirality is incorporated into the system that operates at room temperature in vacuo. The second case uses self-assembled artificial filaments as a path along which fluorophores are shown to move under the experimental conditions used to visualise the system using a in aqua.
