Second excavation campaign at the royal palace of valldaura

Excavació al Palau Reial de valldaura

27 January to 7 February.

Royal Palace of Valldaura (Cerdanyola del Vallès).

In the last week of January, we kicked off the second archaeological excavation campaign in the Royal Palace of Valldaura, an archaeology site of enormous historical interest. It was the location of the first Cistercian monastery in Catalonia (the origin of Santes Creus), and the site where the Royal Palace of Valldaura was built, the leisure retreat of the monarchs of the Crown of Aragon. Students in the Bachelor’s in Archaeology programme at the University of Barcelona participated in the archaeological dig, which was conducted with the support of the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), which owns the lands where the site is located.
