RRI activities

In this area we have developed in recent times some responsible research activities collaborating with third sector institutions or with clear social action.

Some examples are the following projects:

  • Collaboration with the Generalitat of Catalonia for the generation of support and evaluation systems for people affected by the law of dependency.
  • Membership of the Euroscientist network for the dissemination of RRI concepts and responsible science.

Publications in open access

We collaborate in the dissemination of some open distribution tools that we find interesting. Like for example:

  • Repository of the University of Barcelona.
  • Dulcinea and others.
  • Open science projects Conectome and Brain.
  • Diffusion of material by open campus.
  • Access (Creative Commons) to our basic materials.
  • Publication in open journals as long as they guarantee rigor and impact throughout their selection process.
  • Participation in sessions of the EIT Health for the promotion of MOOC’s (Seminars of Grenoble and Copenhagen).

Scientific education

In line with what has been said before, we have already participated in other training activities, especially with regard to younger people. We will not reiterate the ones already described, but we cite two more specific ones:

  • Ted-Talk in Barcelona on Neuroscience.
  • Visits to secondary schools to present presentations about what is and what is done in scientific research in psychology.

Gender activities

Although the presence of women in our field is wide and nourished, there is no real equality of conditions. In our field as in others, there are the same limiting phenomena for women. Therefore, let’s take action to reduce this mishap, such as:

We have special care to keep the actions of:

  • Promotion of women in the field of science and we have been involved in various activities to promote this field. Examples of this have been the Women and Science programs of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the Science in the Schools program, with a special interest in presenting lectures to disseminate these subjects among the students.
  • We try to maintain the gender parity in the projects we request and in the directions of thesis and work.

Divulgation

Our dissemination activity is centered on various actions that the University of Barcelona (its headquarters of the research group) develops throughout the year. Our teams participate, for example, in:

  • Week of the Brain in Barcelona.
  • Week of Science.
  • Science Festival at the University of Barcelona.
  • PhD Degree in Comes and Solà.
  • Participation in the Moc-Moc Outreach Workshops
  • Some of our researchers are part of the GISME group that coordinates the NUMBERS exhibition to be held in December this year (Project financed by FECyT).

Citizen Science

We are joining a project launched from the University of Barcelona to generate spaces of citizen science. At the moment we are collaborating with the NUMBERS project, already mentioned, which aims to bring data collecting systems closer to the citizens. The purpose of the project is to identify how the numbers mark our lives; For example, how the effects of climate change are perfectly quantifiable. So, we are generating Apps so that there is a true citizen involvement in science and allows us to obtain much more massive samples.

Science Shop

Following the same idea, a possible future project is to generate a Science Shop at the University of Barcelona that, transversally, is a magnificent showcase of science done and to do. This project is linked to the possibilities of our participation (such as group and university) at EIT Education
