RelNet will clarify the scope of royal euergetism and its impact on religious networks.
a) Study the role of late Babylonian monarchs as supposed patrons of temples and the extent of royal support for religious institutions.
b) Analyse the participation of the monarch, members of his family or his entourage in processions (for example in the Akītu or New Year Festival in Babylon or Uruk) and pilgrimages; and his presence in sacred journeys accompanying different divinities.
c) Study the function of religious networks as instruments of political authority.
It is essential to scrutinize the different strategies of political legitimation created
and reinforced through the dynamics of religious festivities in public places.
