Els estudis d&#8217;MT terrestres s&#8217;han utilitzat per a obtenir imatges de falles, cartografiar mineralitzacions i fluids i contextos tect\u00f2nics. Els estudis d&#8217;MT marins s&#8217;han utilitzat per obtenir imatges de la fusi\u00f3 i la hidrataci\u00f3 del mantell superior a les dorsals medio-oce\u00e0niques i zones de subducci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<div class='yrm-content yrm-content-1 yrm-content-hide  ' id='yrm-5ckg0' data-id='1' data-show-status='false' data-after-action='' style=\"visibility: hidden;height: 0;\">\n\t\t\t<div id='yrm-inner-content-yrm-5ckg0' class='yrm-inner-content-wrapper yrm-cntent-1'>El sondatge electromagn\u00e8tic de font controlada (CSEM) \u00e9s una t\u00e8cnica de font activa que utilitza, remolcat a profunditat, un dipol el\u00e8ctric horitzontal (HED) que genera camps electromagn\u00e8tics a freq\u00fc\u00e8ncies m\u00e9s altes que les que normalment es poden mesurar per a l&#8217;espectre MT de font natural en aig\u00fces profundes. Els camps transmesos es difonen pel fons mar\u00ed, i els camps secundaris de retorn s\u00f3n registrats simult\u00e0niament pels mateixos sensors OBEM que registren les dades MT a freq\u00fc\u00e8ncies m\u00e9s baixes. Les dades CSEM s\u00f3n principalment sensibles a estructures resistives i fluids de porositat a profunditats corticals. S&#8217;ha utilitzat principalment en la ind\u00fastria del petroli i del gas per caracteritzar els reservoris, per\u00f2 recentment tamb\u00e9 s&#8217;ha utilitzat per cartografiar hidrats de gas, diapirs salins, volcans de fang i sistemes d&#8217;aig\u00fces subterr\u00e0nies a mar.
