A closer look at the MSc in Economics class of 2020
The UB School of Economics has welcomed 32 new students on the MSc in Economics. This diverse group of people was educated at some of the top universities in the world and will now pursue a cutting-edge master’s degree programme designed to train and educate young economists to undertake top research in Economics. The large majority of our students come from Europe (59%), followed by Asia (22%) and the Americas (19%).
Students enrolled on the MSc in Economics typically have an undergraduate degree in Economics (72%), while others have a bachelor degree in Business (19%) and some studied Engineering, Physics or Chemistry (9%). They come from some of the best universities in the world, such as the University of Michigan, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Humboldt University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Autonomous University of Barcelona and Universidad de los Andes, among many other universities.
Overall, the gender breakdown within the MSc in Economics class of 2020 is 69% male students and 31% female. The average age is 24 years old, with the largest group being students under 22 (44%). Students between 23 and 25 and those above 26 years old account for 28% of the class each.
In addition to the 32 new enrolled students, six international exchange students will join the MSc in Economics class of 2020 during the first semester. They come from universities such as University of Copenhagen and Aix-Marseille School of Economics.
The director of the programme, Dr Joan Calzada, welcomed the new class of MSc in Economics students on September 28th. The director of the PhD in Economics, Elisabet Viladecans-Marsal, also attended the meeting. During the session, students received guidance about the programme and all the university resources and services available for them.
