Eugene Garfield to be awarded honorary doctorate from the UB

Dr. Eugene Garfield (New York, 1925), founder and chairman emeritus of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Philadelphia, will be awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Barcelona at a ceremony that will take place on June 14th at 12:00 pm at the Assembly Hall (Paranimf) of the historic building. Dr. Garfield is one of the major names in the field of scientific information. He founded the first large scientific library, with ISI activities and products such as Current Contents, Citation Index and Journal Citation Reports. He also opted for citations as an indicator to assess the quality of a scientific publication, an innovation that was later adopted by Google. Dr. Paul Preston (Liverpool, 1946), historian and Hispanist, will also be conferred an honorary doctorate from the University of Barcelona at the same ceremony.
