Inaugural event of the new Research Centre on Institutions, Politics and Economics (IPERC) at the University of Barcelona
The IPERC is born with the ambition of establishing itself as an international reference hub and contributing to addressing the challenges of our time.
The Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona will host, on 16 October, the inaugural event of the new Research Centre on Institutions, Politics and Economics (IPERC) — a centre created with the aim of promoting high-quality research and scientific excellence in the fields of Political Science, Applied Economics, and Economic History.
The IPERC aspires to become an international benchmark and to contribute — from the perspective of the social sciences — to understanding and providing answers to the major challenges of our time, such as climate change, growing inequality, the transformation of labour markets, and the erosion of democratic systems.
The event will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the Main Hall (Sala d’Actes) of Building 690 and will feature a roundtable entitled “The Current State of Democracies: Challenges and Future Paths”, with the participation of three distinguished speakers of great academic prestige and international recognition:
-
Susan Stokes (University of Chicago), President of the American Political Science Association and Director of the Chicago Center on Democracy
-
Massimo Morelli (Bocconi University), Professor and Director of the Pericles Centre at Bocconi University
-
Carles Boix (Princeton and Barcelona Universities), Professor and Scientific Director of IPERC
The discussion aims to reflect on the challenges facing contemporary democracies and to explore possible future directions.
