The UB in Figures presents the main statistics of the University in a clear and appealing way
Coinciding with the start of the academic year, the new edition of The UB in Figures is now available, featuring the most important data for the 2024-2025 academic year. It presents the main figures for the University of Barcelona and its academic activity in a clear and attractive format. This year, the document’s new design highlights certain data, such as the number of students’ external academic placements (14,135); it includes graphs with more variables and information on gender perspective, such as the percentage of doctoral theses by women (55%); and it shows the UB’s position in the most distinguished international rankings.
The UB in Figures highlights the University’s extensive range of courses, with 74 bachelor’s degrees, 15 dual study pathways, 170 master’s degrees and 47 doctoral programmes. In total, there are more than 60,000 students: 41,020 bachelor’s students, 5,622 master’s students and 11,920 postgraduates, plus 5,238 trainee researchers. The document highlights one of the many figures provided by AQU Catalunya’s latest study of graduate employment outcomes: 86% of graduates are employed within one year of completing their degree, and 90% in the specific case of master’s degrees.
In terms of teaching improvement, some noteworthy figures are that 1,901 members of the UB have been involved in teaching innovation projects and that 442 professors have applied for the teaching assessment call. In the area of internationalization, reference is made to the 3,027 agreements with foreign universities and other institutions, and new data is provided related to doctoral students from international education systems (33%). It also shows the increase in the number of international students admitted to the UB under mobility programmes.
In the research section, The UB in Figures shows the number of scientific publications by UB researchers in indexed journals (7,768) and the 1,443 active research projects. It also notes that last year, through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) — its technology and knowledge transfer office —, the UB managed 632 contracts for knowledge transfer and 165 patent applications.
Another section refers to staff, showing that in 2025 there will be 6,479 PDI members (50.4% women) and 2,669 PTGAS members (64.3% women). The economic chapter includes the more than €529 million budget broken down by chapter. In terms of services, it states that the libraries have 6,683 reading desks, that 1,740 students with specific educational needs have received support, and that 7,753 students have participated in career guidance activities. Also noteworthy is the number of direct beneficiaries of the activities of the UB Solidarity Foundation (7,908) and UB Alumni members (14,181).
The UB in Figures is a reference document for both governing bodies and the entire university community. It also serves as a letter of introduction for the University to other institutions, both national and international, and to society as a whole. Written by the Technical Bureau at the Rector’s Office and published by UB Editions, this year 750 copies have been printed in Catalan, 370 in Spanish and 970 in English. The Catalan version is now available online; the Spanish and English versions will be available shortly.
