The University of Barcelona, Spanish leader regarding scientific impact
The University of Barcelona is leader in Spain regarding indicators for general scientific impact and publication collaborations, according to 2016 Leiden ranking. The University of Barcelona is placed at 127th position worldwide, followed by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, on 155th position, and the Complutense University of Madrid, on 202nd position.
The ranking assesses the scientific performance of more than 800 universities worldwide. It is based on a series of bibliometric indicators analysing the performance, scientific impact and collaboration degree of each university centre in the publications of the database included in the Web of Science by Thomson Reuters during 2011-2014.
The University of Barcelona is the highest ranked Spanish university with a total amount of 6.008 publications. Regarding the total number of publications within each knowledge field, Health Sciences and Biomedicine outstand with a number of 2.654, and Earth and Life Sciences with 1.048 publications.
