UB School of Economics researchers receive best paper award for their research on semi-autonomous vehicle insurance at 31st International Congress of Actuaries
The UB School of Economics researchers Montserrat Guillen and Ana M. Pérez-Marín have received the best paper award for their research on semi-autonomous vehicle insurance at the 31st International Congress of Actuaries (ICA), which took place in Berlin from 4 to 8 June 2018. The paper, entitled “The transition towards semi-autonomous vehicle insurance: contributions from usage-based data”, concludes that advanced driver assistance systems can reduce the number of fatal car accident victims by more than a 60%.
Dr. Guillen and Dr. Pérez-Marín are members of the research group on Risk in Insurance and Finance (Riskcenter), attached to the Research Institute of Applied Economics (IREA) at the University of Barcelona. Vehicle insurance is one of Riskcenter’s lines of research. Both authors are well-known for their formulation of insurance prices that take into account the insured’s driving behavior through telemetry devices set up in vehicles.
Montserrat Guillen is the director of the Riskcenter. Her research focuses on actuarial statistics and quantitative risk management. She has published many articles, contributions to book chapters and books on insurance and actuarial science. On the other hand, Ana M. Pérez-Marín is the coordinator of the Educational Innovation Group in Applied Statistics at the University of Barcelona.
The ICA is the largest actuaries’ congress in the world, which takes place every four years in a different continent. This year’s congress gathered 2.750 participants from 102 different countries.
