UB School of Economics celebrates 15 years of excellence and international impact

In 2026, the UB School of Economics (UBSE) proudly celebrates 15 years of fostering research excellence and international impact in the field of Economics.

The journey began in 2011 with the launch of UB Economics, a project that laid the foundations for what would later become the UB School of Economics in 2017. Since then, UBSE has grown into an internationally recognized center for research and postgraduate education, bringing together more than 150 researchers from diverse fields and offering programmes that are widely regarded as among the strongest in Europe. Today, the School ranks 80th worldwide in Economics, reflecting its consolidated academic leadership.

This anniversary also highlights the long and rich history of the Faculty of Economics and Business, the oldest in Catalonia dedicated to these disciplines. It inherits the legacy of the former Facultat de Ciències Econòmiques i Empresarials, which trained the first generation of economists in Catalonia between 1954 and 1959. Over the decades, the Faculty has continually adapted to the demands of an evolving global academic environment.

The progress of the past 15 years has been made possible thanks to the vision and leadership of our Deans. Under Elisenda Paluzie (2009–2017), the original project was conceived and implemented. Her successor, Ramon Alemany (2017–2025), consolidated its structure and strengthened its international projection, paving the way for sustained growth. The current government team, led by Dean Laura Guitart Tarrés (2025–2031), aims to further expand the project and enhance its international recognition.

The official anniversary celebrations will begin on April 15th with the launch of the new UBSE website. Throughout the year, the School will share stories, profiles, and memories from members of our community — past and present — highlighting the people, ideas, and achievements that have shaped UBSE.

To accompany this milestone, the School has also released a special 15‑year anniversary version of the UBSE logo, which members of the community are invited to use throughout 2026.

We thank the entire UBSE community for contributing to this shared success. Together, we look forward to continuing to foster excellence and lead in Economics in the years ahead.
