On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February), the University of Barcelona is launching a new edition of the Petites Mirades project, an initiative of the Science Culture and Innovation Unit that connects UB researchers with primary school students from across Catalonia.

In this edition, the UB School of Sociology is participating with three researchers: Karla Berrens Torruella, Ana Belén Cano Hila i Nuria Rodriguez Ávila, who have visited primary schools to share their experience in the world of research and bring social sciences closer to students through a personal and experiential perspective.

Each researcher will hold three one-hour in-person sessions with the same class group. Through presentations, practical workshops and spaces for reflection, students will learn about the women who conduct research, the projects they are developing and what their daily life as scientists is like. At the same time, they will reflect on the lack of female representation in science.

The project concludes with a collective creative challenge, in which schools produce an artistic representation that captures the learning experience and the relationship established with the researcher. Through initiatives such as Petites Mirades, the University of Barcelona contributes to fostering scientific vocations and highlighting female role models in research from the earliest stages of education.
