Coinciding with the inauguration of the academic year, the new edition of The UB in figures has arrived, with the most important data for the academic year 2021-2022. This year, the document presents a new design that shows in an understandable and attractive way the main strengths of the University and its academic activity, as well as the evolution of some variables over the last academic years.

The document points out the extensive educational offer of the University of Barcelona, with 73 bachelor’s degrees, 16 dual study itineraries, 173 university master’s degrees and 46 doctoral programs. In total, more than 60,000 students: 41,540 undergraduate, 5,318 university master’s and 10,1891 postgraduate students, plus 5,007 researchers in training. It should be noted that, according to the study of labour market insertion carried out by the Catalan University System Quality Assurance Agency (AQU), 87.3% of UB graduates are employed within one year of completing their studies, a figure that rises to 90.2% in the case of master’s degree graduates.

In the research section, The UB in figures includes, for its first time, the graphic treatment of the evolution —over the last five years— of scientific publications by UB researchers in indexed journals. Thus, it allows to observe that it has gone from 5,714 publications in 2017 to 7,876 in 2021. Other noteworthy data are the 1,029 active research projects, as well as the funds raised for research and transfer: 192 million euros in 2021. Likewise, it is noted that last year the UB, through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) —its technology and knowledge transfer office— managed transfer projects worth 24.31 million euros.

Another section refers to the staff, and it shows that last year there were 6,119 TRS members (48.3% women) and 2,461 AdSS members (63.1% women). It also highlights that a total of 218 UB women researchers are among the 5,000 most outstanding researchers in Spain, according to the ranking of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

As for the economic chapter, the 444 million euros of the budget are shown, broken down by chapters. In terms of services, the publication shows that the CRAI libraries have a collection of monographs and journals in hard copy amounting to 1,804,108 copies. The number of direct beneficiaries of the actions of the UB Solidarity Foundation (7,822) and the number of UB Alumni members (7,337) is also noteworthy.

The UB in figures is a reference document both for the governing bodies and for all members of the university community. It is also a letter of presentation of the University to other institutions, both national and foreign, and to society. Prepared by the Rector’s Technical Bureau Office and published by Publications and Editions of the UB, this year 1,130 copies have been published in  Catalan, 830 in Spanish and 1,330 in English, and all three versions can be consulted online.
