Who is Hannah Arendt? How about Simone Weil? Who is Hildegard von Bingen? Until very recently, such questions were met with genuine ignorance. Nowadays these names spark interest, curiosity, and even true passion and recognition. Still, can the same be said about Rachel Bespaloff, Jeanne Hersch or Helene von Druskowitz? How about Moderata Fonte? And Sarah Koffman? There is no surprise if in such cases the lack of recognition persists…
The Philosophy and Gender Seminar celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2021. Since the beginning of the nineties, a group of professors and students at the Universitat de Barcelona began an enthralling experience driven by the question “Where are women philosophers?” in a context in which they were not heard of. Thus, for over 30 years, the Philosophy and Gender Seminar has been working on archival research, interpretative analysis, translations, volume editions and activities so as to grant these dedicated and intense women thinkers the visibility and resonance they deserve, both in the academic sphere and outside it.
