  • Experts in Urban Economics stress the key role of cities in responding to the crisis

Professors Vernon J. Henderson (Brown University), William C. Strange (University of Toronto) and Diego Puga (IMDEA) take part in the IEB's Second Workshop on Urban Economics.

What role can cities play in helping to resolve the current economic crisis? And how can we turn cities into engines of economic development? Professors Vernon J. Henderson (Brown University), William C. Strange (University of Toronto) and Diego Puga (IMDEA) sought to answer these questions at the IEB's Second Workshop on Urban Economics, held on 4 and 5 June.

Participants at the meeting discussed questions such as the spatial dimensions of the labour market, the creation of clusters in cities, and the influence of infrastructure investment on an area's economic growth. The meeting was attended by experts and researchers from universities from all over the world, including the London School of Economics, Brown University, and the Universities of Toronto, Oxford, Stanford, Syracuse, and Aarhus.
