El proyecto Adaptación del conocimiento creativo: la competitividad de las regiones metropolitanas en la Europa ampliada (ACRE), financiado por el VI Programa marco de la Unión Europea analiza las condiciones necesarias para formar o estimular regiones creativas y del conocimiento en el contexto de la Unión Europea. En el congreso 'Framing a Competitive Future: The Creative and Knowledge Economy in European Cities' se presentaran las conclusiones finales de este estudio.

ACRE se centra en el examen de diferentes estudios de caso  – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Birmingham, Budapest, Helsinki, Leipzig, Munich, Poznan, Riga y Sofia – comparando a escala internacional la competitividad entre regiones y el papel que juegan la creatividad y el conocimiento.
