Among the top 200 in ARWU
The UB is listed once more as the only university in Spain among the top 200 worldwide in the Shanghai ranking.
According to the new edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai ranking, the UB is the only university in Spain to be listed among the top 200 worldwide. ARWU analyses about 2,000 universities worldwide and it publishes the list of the top 1,000.
Once more, the ranking’s top is held by the American universities. The first positions are for Harvard and Stanford, while the British Cambridge holds the third position. Spain has 12 centres among the top 500 universities worldwide. The Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Granada are listed in the 201-300 range. The Autonomous University of Madrid, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of the Basque Country, and the University of Valencia are in the 301-400 range.
The Shanghai ranking is made with the analysis of the bibliometric data in six indicators: the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Field Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index – Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and last, the per capita performance of the institution.
