These are multidisciplinary courses open to the general public. Completion of one of these courses can carry ECTS credits for students taking EHEA bachelor's degree courses and free-elective credits for students still working towards a degree organized under the previous national regulatory framework for higher education qualifications. Els Juliols courses are delivered during a period of three weeks in July, mostly in the Historic Building in Plaça de la Universitat, but in some cases also on other campuses and in other areas of the city. Els Juliols also runs specific programs.
These courses are available from beginner to advanced levels. In addition, specific courses are offered to increase students' general Catalan language resources and knowledge. In the first two weeks of September, special intensive courses are provided for students from outside Catalonia who wish to study temporarily or begin a degree course at the UB. Catalan language certificates issued by the University of Barcelona are equivalent to the official language qualifications issued by the Generalitat.
Over the four summer months, UB Sports provides a total of 25 sports facilities for physical, sporting, health and leisure activities. In June and July, there is a program of over 20 supervised activities, led by staff specializing in water sports, martial arts, physical conditioning, sports, dance and dance workouts. These activities may be eligible for recognition as ECTS and free-elective credits for UB students.
Intensive summer courses in Spanish language and culture are offered to students from abroad. The courses are taught from June to September, including the month of August. Cultural activities also take place during this period.
A total of 15 languages are taught and special emphasis is given to level and register in the speaking and writing skills. Students taking these courses will be able to use self-access centres to reinforce their classwork and take part in a program of cultural activities. These courses may also be recognized as academic credits.
