Introduction

The bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering combines knowledge and skills from engineering, physics and mathematics with those from biology and medicine to provide students with direct knowledge of the field of healthcare and facilitate communication with other health science professionals.

The degree in Biomedical Engineering provides training for a socioeconomic activity which has a remarkable impact on modern medicine. It produces professionals who are able to solve engineering problems in the biomedical field, perform research, development and technological innovation tasks at the interface between engineering and biomedicine, and take on professional roles at companies, hospitals, research centres and government agencies in the field of biomedical technologies. It teaches students to lead and manage engineering projects related to the design of monitoring, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, as well as information and communication systems applied to healthcare, telemedicine, remote monitoring and equipment quality assurance. Students acquire the necessary skills in techniques for the analysis and interpretation of biomedical images and signals, biomechanics and biomaterials, sensors, care quality enhancement, and equipment and process optimization.
