Introduction

Through the reading and interpretation of both literary and non-literary texts, students of the bachelor's degree in Classics at the University of Barcelona gain mastery of classical languages enabling a comprehensive understanding of Greek and Latin texts, as well as philological techniques and basic auxiliary sciences.

The bachelor's degree in Classics provides extensive knowledge of Greco-Roman antiquity, especially the languages that characterize it: Latin and Greek. Knowledge of this cultural world, fundamental to the origin and development of European society, provides a strong humanistic background, while also enabling the acquisition of philological skills that qualify students for professional practice. The course equips students with the knowledge they need to develop strategies for information management and the application of new technologies in the field of language. Graduates can pursue careers in translation and interpreting, proofreading and literary criticism, or as consultants or librarians at publishing houses or media outlets. They can likewise teach at secondary or language schools or go into research.
