What you will learn

The bachelor's degree in Statistics is an inter-university degree taught jointly by the University of Barcelona and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Graduates benefit from the growing demand for professionals with skills in data science. Their expertise in data processing is necessary for decision-making in the corporate and institutional worlds. Career opportunities are manifold: finance, consultancy, business intelligence, machine learning, big data, bioscience, industrial quality control, etc.

The bachelor's degree in Statistics is intended for students with an interest in data analysis and its applications. Every time we browse the Internet, open an app on our mobile phone, visit the doctor or do the shopping we generate large quantities of data. However, data do not mean anything unless professionals with a solid background in statistics can transform them into useful information for companies and institutions.

In order to give students a solid foundation, the curriculum begins with subjects in mathematics and programming before moving on to probability and statistics and their many applications. Most subjects are of a practical nature, outlining the methods for gathering and correctly analysing sets of data, thus contributing to decision-making. Many students carry out placements in companies or take part in international mobility programmes, which complete their training and help them grow personally and professionally.

The optional subjects in the degree enable students to orient their professional future toward different areas, which include emerging disciplines like big data and machine learning. Other students choose to specialise in financial, biomedical, industrial or demographic data analysis, among other areas. Graduates find jobs in strategic or business data consultancy agencies, in the central services of financial or insurance entities, in research centres, in public administration, as industrial quality control specialists, etc
