Objectives and competences

Students seeking admission to the master's programme must hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology. The aim of the master's degree is to contribute to training professionals and researchers in the field of Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology, with a focus on the European approach and perspective. The master's degree centres on the main principles developed in the EuroPsy model, the European certificate in psychology, established by the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations (EFPA). It is also based on the reference model and minimum standards of the European curriculum for training in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology, established by the European Network of Organisational and Work Psychologists (ENOP).

Four European universities are involved: University of Valencia (coordinator), University of Barcelona, Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna (Italy) and University of Coïmbra (Portugal). Six non-European universities also participate:  University of Baltimore (USA), University of Brasília (Brazil), Florida Institute of Technology (USA), University of Guelph (Canada), Illinois Institute of Technology (USA) and the University of Puerto Rico (USA).

This is a full-time, two-year programme with a study load of 120 credits (60 credits per year). The languages of instruction and examination could be any of the following: English, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish.

Students who have completed the subjects will obtain a joint diploma issued by the home university and the host university during the master's degree.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P), also known as WOP-P Master, is a 120 ECTS credit Master's Degree (two academic years), implemented by an international Consortium, which aims to train excellent experts in WOP-P for an increasingly globalized socio-economic context. There are two general employability itineraries: as a practitioner and as a researcher.

The WOP-P Master follows the EUROPSY education and professional competencies model for the European Certificate of Psychology (EDP), supported by the European Federation of Psychology Associations (EFPA), and the EuroPsy Specialist Certificate in WOP Psychology. Based on the scientist-practitioner model, it addresses both an explanatory scientific approach to human behavior and contexts as well as the intervention. It includes evidence-based models, combined with methodology and research activities, and it integrates both traditional WOP-P contents and emergent-topics.

Throughout this master program, multicultural skills and competencies are also developed. Students work in teams with classmates from other countries and cultures, in a similar context where future WOP psychologists will work.

Access requirements and conditions

General requirements
In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, students wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Official Spanish university degree.

  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.

  • A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, applicants must request homologation of the degree to its equivalent official Spanish university qualification or obtain express approval from the University of Barcelona, which will conduct a study of equivalence to ensure that the degree is of a comparable level to an official Spanish university qualification and that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record.  There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.

What can you work on ?

The Consortium has conducted two employability surveys among our graduates from editions 2015-2016. According to the last study (2019), more than 90% of our graduates are employed or self-employed, and only 5.7% are looking for a job; more than 50% spent less than 3 months to find their first job after graduation; most of them consider that the contents of the Master are very related (43.6%) or quite related (31.9%) to their first jobs, and more than 85% are quite or very satisfied with their job. About 42% of survey participants graduated in 2017 or later.
